ऋतवः (ṛtavaḥ) | Seasons

ऋतवः (ṛtavaḥ) means seasons in Sanskrit. There are six seasons mentioned in Sanskrit literature. They are as given below:

वसन्तः (vasantaḥ)

This occurs in the months of
चैत्र: and वैशाखः

This is Spring.

ग्रीष्मः (grīṣmaḥ)

This occurs in the months of
ज्येष्ठ: and आषाढः

This is Summer.

वर्षा (varṣā)

This occurs in the months of
श्रावणः and भाद्रपदः

This is Monsoon.

शरद् (śarad)

This occurs in the months of
अश्विनः and कार्तिकः

This is Autumn.

हेमन्तः (hemantaḥ)

This occurs in the months of
 मार्गशीर्षः and पौषः

This is Pre-Winter.

शिशिरः (śiśiraḥ)

This occurs in the months of
माघः and फाल्गुनः

This is Winter.

मासाः | Months

मासाः (māsāḥ) means Months in Sanskrit. Similar to the international calendar system, there are 12 months in a year. They are as follows:

चैत्रः
(caitraḥ)

Occurs during the months of March and April
Is known as चैत्र in Hindi

वैशाखः
(vaiśākhaḥ)

Occurs during the months of April and May.
Is known as वैशाख in Hindi

ज्येष्ठः
(jyeṣṭhaḥ)

Occurs during the months of May and June.
Is known as ज्येष्ठ in Hindi

आषाढः
(āṣāḍhaḥ)

Occurs during the months of June and July.
Is known as आषाढ़ in Hindi

श्रावणः
(śrāvaṇaḥ)

Occurs during the months of July and August.
Is known as श्रावण in Hindi

भाद्रपदः
(bhādrapadaḥ)

Occurs during the months of August and September.
Is known as भाद्रपद in Hindi

अश्विनः
(aśvinaḥ)

Occurs during the months of September and October.
Is known as अश्विन in Hindi

कार्तिकः
(kārtikaḥ)

Occurs during the months of October and November.
Is known as कार्तिक in Hindi

मार्गशीर्षः
(mārgaśīrṣaḥ)

Occurs during the months of November and December.
Is known as मार्गशीर्ष in Hindi

पौषः
(pauṣaḥ)

Occurs during the months of December and January.
Is known as पौष in Hindi

माघः
(māghaḥ)

Occurs during the months of January and February.
Is known as माघ in Hindi

फाल्गुनः
(phālgunaḥ)

Occurs during the months of February and March.
Is known as फाल्गुन in Hindi

सप्ताहस्य वासराः
Days of the week

सप्ताहस्य वासराः (saptāhasya vāsarāḥ) means days of the week in Sanskrit.
