Essay on Ganesha

श्रीगणेशः।

श्रीगणेशः विद्यायाः देवता इति सर्वे मन्यन्ते। शिवपार्वत्योः एषः पुत्रः। कार्तिकेयः तस्य भ्राता। श्रीगणेशस्य वाहनं मूषकः। तस्मै मोदकाः रोचन्ते। छात्राः विद्यारम्भे गणपतिं प्रणमन्ति। सः विनायकः इति नाम्नि प्रसिद्धः। ‘विघ्नहर्ता-देवः’ इति तस्य ख्यातिः। अतः कार्यारम्भे जनाः गणेशं प्रार्थयन्ते।
वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ।
निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा॥

Transliteration

śrīgaṇeśaḥ vidyāyāḥ devatā iti sarve manyante। śivapārvatyoḥ eṣaḥ putraḥ। kārtikeyaḥ tasya bhrātā। śrīgaṇeśasya vāhanaṃ mūṣakaḥ। tasmai modakāḥ rocante। chātrāḥ vidyārambhe gaṇapatiṃ praṇamanti। saḥ vināyakaḥ iti nāmni prasiddhaḥ। ‘vighnahartā-devaḥ’ iti tasya khyātiḥ। ataḥ kāryārambhe janāḥ gaṇeśaṃ prārthayante।
vakratuṇḍa mahākāya sūryakoṭi samaprabha।
nirvighnaṃ kuru me deva sarvakāryeṣu sarvadā॥

English translation

Shri Ganesh is the God of knowledge. He is the son of Shiva & Parvati. Kartikeya is his brother. Mouse is Ganesha’s mount. Ganesha likes to eat Modakas. Students pray to Shri Ganesha before starting their studies. He is also known as Vinayaka. He is famously known as The Remover Of Obstacles. So people worship him before starting any new work.
O’ Ganesha, the Great one who has a curved elephant trunk, a huge body and whose brilliance is equal to millions of Suns, may you always remove obstacles from all my endeavors.

हिंदी में अनुवाद

श्रीगणेश विद्या की देवता है। वह शिव-पार्वती के पुत्र हैं। कार्तिकेय उनके बंधु हैं। मूषक उनका वाहन है। उनको मोदक अच्छे लगते हैं। विद्यार्थी पढ़ाई शुरु करनेसे पहले गणेशजी को प्रणाम करते हैं। ये ‘विनायक’ नाम से भी प्रसिद्ध हैं। गणेशजी ‘विघ्नहर्ता’ हैं, इसलिए लोग कोई भी कार्य का आरंभ उनकी प्रार्थना करके करते हैं
हे ईश्वर, हाथी के जैसे विशालकाय, (जिसका) तेज सूर्य की सहस्र किरणों के समान है, मेरे सर्व कार्य बिना विघ्न के पूर्ण हो, (ऐसी प्रार्थना करता हूँ)।
