In the country of festivals, India, there is one festival which occurs a couple of times. This festival is Navaratri. In some parts of India, it is also called ‘Durga Puja’. The nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped in this festival. These nine forms of the Goddess are called the ‘Navadurgas’.
This festival happens in the months of Chaitra and Ashwin of the same year. When this festival occurs in the month of Chaitra, it is known by different names. Some call it Gudi Padwa, Ugadi or Chaitra Navaratri.

These forms are – Goddess Shailaputri, Goddess Brahmacharini, Goddess Chandraghanta, Goddess Kushmanda, Goddess Skandamata, Goddess Katyayani, Goddess Kalaratri, Goddess Mahagauri and Goddess Siddhidatri.
Everywhere people worship the Goddess with complete devotion. Small temples (pandals) of the Goddess are constructed in many places. The festival is celebrated in a grand way.
Every year a Pandal of Goddess Durga is erected near my home. Me, my family and my friends go there to perform Aarti of the Goddess. Garba (a Gujarati folk dance) is also performed. This kind of celebration of Navaratri festival originated in Gujarat.
The festival of Navaratri is a source of happiness for all Indians. The nine days of Navaratri bring with them a long-lasting auspiciousness.
