सुभाषितम्

यथा खरः चन्दनभारवाही भारस्य वेत्ता न तु चन्दनस्य।

Sanskrit Proverb on Foolishness
Sanskrit

यथा खरः चन्दनभारवाही भारस्य वेत्ता न तु चन्दनस्य।
एवं हि शास्त्राणि बहूनि अधीत्य अर्थेषु मूढाः खरवद् वहन्ति॥

yathā kharaḥ candanabhāravāhī bhārasya vettā na tu candanasya।
evaṃ hi śāstrāṇi bahūni adhītya artheṣu mūḍhāḥ kharavad vahanti॥

Meaning in English

The way a donkey carrying sandalwood does not understand the value of what it is carrying, similarly many foolish people who read scriptures do not understand its meaning and do not learn anything. They just carry the baggage of learning these scriptures.

भावार्थ

जैसे चंदन का बोझ़ उठानेवाला गधा बोझ़ तो उठाता है लेकिन चंदन का मूल्य नहीं समझता। वैसे ही मूर्ख लोग बहुत से शास्त्रों को पढ़ लेते है, लेकिन उनका अर्थ नहीं समझते, सच्चा ज्ञान नहीं पाते। शास्त्रों का केवल बोझ़ उठाते है।
