Guru Shlokas
Guru Shlokas in Sanskrit with Transliteration, translation in English and Hindi. श्लोकः - गुरु | गुरु पर संस्कृत श्लोक
Shlokas are verses in poetic form. They are composed in a specific way, having a specific number of lines, with specific number of words per line.
Usually they are made of quarter-verses of 8 syllables each, or of two half-verses of 16 syllables each.
Guru Shlokas - 1
विनयफलं शुश्रूषा गुरुशुश्रूषाफलं श्रुतं ज्ञानम्।
ज्ञानस्य फलं विरतिः विरतिफलं चाश्रवनिरोधः॥
jñānasya phalaṃ viratiḥ viratiphalaṃ cāśravanirodhaḥ॥
हिंदी में अनुवाद
विनय का फल सेवा है। गुरुसेवा का फल ज्ञान है। ज्ञान का फल विरक्ति है। विरक्ति का फल बंधनमुक्ति तथा मोक्ष है।
English Translation
The fruit of politeness is service; the fruit of the service of one’s guru is knowledge and wisdom; the fruit of knowledge is stability; the fruit of stability is moksha (freedom from the cycle of life and death).
Guru Shlokas - 2
शरीरं चैव वाचं च बुद्धिन्द्रिय मनांसि च।
नियम्य प्राञ्जलिः तिष्ठेत् वीक्षमाणो गुरोर्मुखम्॥
niyamya prāñjaliḥ tiṣṭhet vīkṣamāṇo gurormukham॥
हिंदी में अनुवाद
शरीर, वाणी, बुद्धि, इंद्रिय और मन को संयम में रखकर, हाथ जोड़कर गुरु के सन्मुख देखना चाहिए।
English Translation
One should have control over the body, speech, intelligence, senses and mind and stand with folded hands in front of one’s guru.
Guru Shlokas - 3
अखण्डमण्डलाकारं व्याप्तं येन चराचरम्।
तत्पदं दर्शितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः॥
tatpadaṃ darśitaṃ yena tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ॥
हिंदी में अनुवाद
जो अखण्ड है, सारे ब्रह्मांड में समाया है, चराचर में व्याप्त है, जिस गुरु ने उस अवस्था का साक्षात्कार करना संभव किया, उस महान गुरु को मेरा नमस्कार।
English Translation
I bow to my great guru, the one who is whole, the one who is omnipresent, present even in the smallest of things and the one who made this realisation possible.
Guru Shlokas - 4
धर्मज्ञो धर्मकर्ता च सदा धर्मपरायणः।
तत्त्वेभ्यः सर्वशास्त्रार्थादेशको गुरुरुच्यते॥
tattvebhyaḥ sarvaśāstrārthādeśako gururucyate॥
हिंदी में अनुवाद
धर्म के ज्ञानी, धर्म के अनुसार आचरण करने वाले, हमेशा धर्मपरायण और सभी शास्त्रों में से तत्त्वों का आदेश करने वाले, "गुरु" कहे जाते हैं।
English Translation
Only the one who knows dharma, follows it, is pious and follows the principles of the sacred scriptures is known as a “guru”.
Guru Shlokas - 5
नीचं शय्यासनं चास्य सर्वदा गुरुसन्निधौ।
गुरोस्तु चक्षुर्विषये न यथेष्टासनो भवेत्॥
nīcaṃ śayyāsanaṃ cāsya sarvadā gurusannidhau।
gurostu cakṣurviṣaye na yatheṣṭāsano bhavet॥
हिंदी में अनुवाद
गुरु के पास हमेशा उनसे छोटे आसन पर बैठना चाहिए। गुरु जब आते हुए दिखे, तब मनमानी से नहीं बैठना चाहिए।
English Translation
When sitting near one's guru, one must always be seated on a smaller asana than him. When one's guru is arriving, one must not sit and behave as one pleases.
Guru Shlokas - 6
गुरौ न प्राप्यते यत्तन्नान्यत्रापि हि लभ्यते।
गुरुप्रसादात सर्वं तु प्रप्नोत्येव न संशयः॥
guruprasādāta sarvaṃ tu prapnotyeva na saṃśayaḥ॥
हिंदी में अनुवाद
गुरु के द्वारा जो प्राप्त नहीं होता, वह अन्यत्र भी नहीं मिलता। गुरुकृपा से मनुष्य सब कुछ प्राप्त कर सकता है, इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं।
English Translation
Whatever knowledge and wisdom is not attained from the guru, cannot be found anywhere else. Without any doubt, with the blessings of the guru, a person can achieve anything in this world.
Guru Shlokas - 7
प्रेरकः सूचकश्वैव वाचको दर्शकस्तथा।
शिक्षको बोधकश्वैव षडेते गुरवः स्मृताः॥
śikṣako bodhakaśvaiva ṣaḍete guravaḥ smṛtāḥ॥
हिंदी में अनुवाद
प्रेरणा देने वाले, सूचना देने वाले, सच बताने वाले, मार्ग दिखाने वाले, शिक्षा देने वाले और बोध कराने वाले, ये छह गुरु माने गए हैं।
English Translation
The one who inspires, the one who advises, the one who teaches the truth, the one who guides on the correct path, the one who teaches and the one who helps to attain realisation, all of these six individuals are considered to be gurus.
Guru Shlokas - 8
किमत्र बहुनोक्तेन शास्त्रकोटि शतेन च।
दुर्लभा चित्त विश्रान्तिः विना गुरुकृपां परम्॥
kimatra bahunoktena śāstrakoṭi śatena ca।
durlabhā citta viśrāntiḥ vinā gurukṛpāṃ param॥
हिंदी में अनुवाद
बहुत कहने से क्या होगा? करोड़ों शात्रों से क्या होगा? मन की (चित्त की) परं शांति गुरु के बिना मिलना दुर्लभ है।
English Translation
What will happen by talking a lot? What will happen with thousands of scriptures? Peace of mind is quite difficult to achieve, without the blessings and assistance of a Guru.
Guru Shlokas - 9
गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः।
गुरुः साक्षात् परब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः॥
guruḥ sākṣāt parabrahma tasmai śrī gurave namaḥ॥
हिंदी में अनुवाद
गुरु ब्रह्मा है, गुरु विष्णु है, गुरु शंकर है, गुरु ही साक्षात परब्रह्म है, उन गुरु को मेरा प्रणाम।
English Translation
Guru is verily the representative of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Guru is Parabrahma (Supreme Being). With this knowledge, I offer my obeisance to the Guru.
Guru Shlokas - 10
अज्ञान तिमिरान्धस्य ज्ञानाञ्जन शलाकया।
चक्षुरुन्मीलितं येन तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः॥
cakṣurunmīlitaṃ yena tasmai śrīgurave namaḥ॥
हिंदी में अनुवाद
जो गुरु, अज्ञान के अंधःकार से, जिन लोगों के आँखो पर पट्टी बँधी है, उनकी आँखे, ज्ञानांजन-रुपी शलाका से खोलता है, उन गुरु को प्रणाम।
English Translation
The Guru, who removes the blindfold of ignorance from the eyes of ignorant person by giving him the knowledge of wisdom, I salute such a Guru.
